The famous friendship between "Papa Haydn" and his young protégé Mozart inspires this evening of sparkling arias and orchestral brilliance. Selections from Haydn's Sturm und Drang period - the stormy overture to L'Isola disabitata and the famous "Trauer" Symphony - give way to the laughter and tears of young Mozart's early works. Soprano Amanda Forsythe, fresh from triumphs at Covent Garden, returns to sing the famous "Alleluia" from Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate and selections from Lucio Silla. Jeannette Sorrell leads Mozart's brilliant Symphony no. 33, which foreshadows the "Jupiter."
“Forsythe reigned supreme... with effortless and subtle vocal artistry. She cast a spell on the hall.”
